Show & Tell

I used to love Show and Tell when I was a kid.  I remember my excitement and eagerness to show off my prized possession, sure my classmates would think it was the neatest thing ever.  (Yes, 'neat' was the popular adjective back then.)

Well.... some things never change, and here I am, all eager and excited to proudly share with you one of my most treasured possessions.  Are you ready to be impressed?

"Taa, ta ta Daaaa."
(that's trumpets announcing the arrival of my very cool item).

It's a souvenir blowgun that I bought in Brazil from an Amazonian native who hand-crafted it himself.  The shaft is made from bamboo, the face is molded from tree resin, the head is a coconut, the crown is made from shells, and the stones are Amethysts.   It's teeth are real teeth from water buffalo (or so he claimed), and the bridge of it's nose is made from Piranha teeth.  The darts are like giant toothpicks with spun cotton ends.  All I'm missing is the poison to dip them in!  And it really works!  Look -

Yes, we play Blowgun Darts.  It happens like this:

Two Empty Nesters + a bottle of wine + Aerosmith (loud) = a game of Blowgun Darts

So what do you think of my Show & Tell item?  If you have any really neat/fascinating/wierd/wild possessions you'd like to share, email me and I'll happily post them on my blog.  Promise.

  2. You and your hubby play with blowguns when your kids aren't around?! You make me laugh you div!

I play with my iron-cast Carpet-Bagger when I am short of things to do. You put money in his hand, press a button, and voila! the coin drops into his bag!

What a great game! I can just visualize you two doing that.
And that blowgun is so pretty!

If I think of any objects, I'll send you a picture.

  4. Luvs it!! It would go fantastic with my Mayan mask and jeweled lizards hand crafted in Zimbabwe! It would be so cool even if it didn't actually work. Next time my son fires at me with his Nerf dart gun.....look out son - welcome to the Big Leagues! LOL

  5. I think you can pretty much rest assured that none of the "other kids" on your block have anything quite like your blowgun, so you'll be the star of any show and tell. Very cool. Very unique. And I love your dart game. Beats watching TV.

  6. Now that is unusual indeed. Of course, you would get expelled for bringing that to school these days!

  7. Jeff: I proud myself on being an expert at time-wasting activities :)

Anne: I'm not exactly sure what a carpet-bagger is. Someone who bags carpets? If you want to show him off, just email me a photo.

PAM: Thanks! It's not as much fun as it looks - Dan beats me every time!

Rory: You have a Mayan mask and jewelled lizards?! Neat!

Susan: Thank you! Doesn't just about everything beat TV these days?

Galen: You're not kidding! My father once gave my young son a pocket knife, telling him that he had one just like it that he always carried in his pocket when he was a boy. Poor dad just shook his head when I explained that Nick would get expelled from school if it was found in his pocket. Times have changed!

  17. I don't have anything neat or weird. But these four kids hanging on my legs. I think they fall into both categories.

But I really dig your neat weird thing. Wish I could come over for a game of blowdarts:)
