Moose Mugs and Leg Lamps

It's that time of year again - the season of aberrant consumerism that turns kindly people into parking-space-pillagers and hot-toy-plunderers.  Yes, 'tis the season of pillaging and plundering.

And after the shopping mall raids and the frantic skirmish to bake and wrap and decorate; after the relentless barrage of Christmas music and the bombardment of huge expectations, the occasion is expected to culminate in a moment of reflection on our abundant peace, joy and love.   Or . . . perhaps the crowning moment of your family Christmas is more akin to Clark Griswold's famous rant from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation:

Clark:  "Where do you think you're going? Nobody's leaving. Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no. We're all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here! We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye! And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he's gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse!"

Does that bring back Christmas memories?  Is your heart aglow with nostalgic memories of Christmases past?  Or, at least, nostalgic memories of past Christmas movies?

Perhaps the folks at A Christmas Story House Gift Shop can help.  They offer wild and wacky gifts plucked from famous Christmas movies.  On their on-line shop, you can purchase such novelty items as the Griswold's eggnog Moose Mugs or the infamous Leg Lamp from The Christmas Story.

Yes, you can actually buy the leg lamp.  And did you fall in love with Ralphie's pink bunny pyjamas?  They can be yours (or your favorite nephew's) for only $59.99.

Among their assortment of gift ideas, you will find Randy's stocking cap,  The Evil Elf's Hat, & Lifebuoy Soap.  Yes...they even sell the soap.

  1. We just watched Christmas Vacation last night...of course, we watch that one throughout the year...and we never stop cracking up through the whole movie! Oh, and that stocking cap? I'm trying to knit everyone a stocking cap this year! LOL

  2. 'A Christmas Story' really, really, really reminds me of my childhood (did I say 'really'?).
And what can you about 'National Lampoon's A Christmas Vacation'?
Too many quotes from that movie, so little time.
"You couldn't hear a garbage truck in a nitro-glycerin plant."

  3. Because of this, I watched "Christmas Vacation" tonight. Sadly, I got the quote wrong. It was a "dump", not "garbage" truck.
    Plus, a better quote:
    "Shitter was full."

  4. Can't wait till Christmas Vacation comes on TV! I could watch it even year! I am a very strange sort of person who can get equal amounts of satisfaction from watching this movie, and It's A Wonderlife. I am really not sure what that says about me. Perhaps I should sip some eggnog from a moose antler mug and ponder that.

  7. I love the old version of AChristmas Carol too. It scared the bejeebers out of me as a child, though!

  11. As far as "A Christmas Carol"? I have to admit, I prefer the one with Mr. Magoo. Really.
    Tonight...."A Christmas Story."
Hope I don't put my eye out.

  15. It would be quite the Christmas decoration. You could set it in your front window and give all your neighbours a good chuckle!

  17. A Christmas Story has to be one of the top ten Christmas movies. I love the old ones too - Holiday Inn, Bishop's Wife, It's A Wonderful Life. I think we watch more movies during December than all the other months combined. Moose mugs - LOL!
